365 photos week #9

Sorry this is a little late. By the time we got these posted I was way to tired to write anything about them.
This week I started changing all my boards in my classroom. We will be talking about March and the weather. I out this up almost every year. This is the first I have put it on a door. Sorry it looks so dark.

This was such a beautiful picture I wish it would have turned out better. Philip and I were on our way to his company Oyster Roast and crossed a bridge and saw this beautiful scene. Thankful Philip stopped so I could take the picture.

This is at the oyster roast. I had never been to one and the smell was bad enough but I looked at this as a chance to learn something new. The oysters are steamed in the shell and then dumped onto the table.

Then the work begins, You have to find the little crack were the two shells meet and pop it open. This can be the hard part. Once it is open you see this thing that looks like a white piece of snot. (Sorry, no other way to say it) It looks so slimy and gross. Most everyone then dipped the oyster in a community dipping bowl of sauce and then ate the slimy thing.  Not many things gross me out but this did. Philip ate hot dogs and I had a nice hamburger.Oh well I can say I have been to an oyster roast now.
Rachel and I have been having Spring Fever so we started our garden last Saturday. We now have tomatoe sprouts. We also planted some pepper seeds but none have come up yet. I will keep you posted on how things go this summer. If all of the plants grow we will have way to many tomatoes. We will be sharing with our neighbors which Rachel is already excited to do.

Spring Fever

The other week we had some 70 degree weather and I started to get spring fever so bad. I went in on Monday morning and asked my K-5ers if they knew what is spring fever. Here are some of their answers- when you stay home from school with Mommy, when you have a fever and your Mommy gives you medicine, when you have a fever and throw up. We have been calling Mom in Maryland to keep tabs on the snow and since they met Mom back in November sometimes I will call from class and let them say "Hi". We see the measurements of snow on a wall yardstick. The other day I read this in my devotions and thought about all the people who live North of us and how much snow they have had and "if I have spring fever how much more they have it." Here is some hope for spring-

If the world had known no winter and the time were always spring,
Would we watch the birds fly over; would we listen to them sing?
If our hearts had known no sorrow and our bodies known no pain,
Would there be the same rejoicing as when lives are whole again?
If the earth had seen no storm clouds or perhaps there were no night,
Would the sunshine of the morning fill our souls with such delight?
Life, seems, has need of contrasts and my heart with rapture thrills
When our dark days I remember every valley has two hills. By J.M.B.

The Bible reading with this was 1 John 5:1-15.

365 photos week #8

Sorry to say there will be no pictures this week. We have all been fighting the 24 hour flu and I really don't think you want to see how we look when we are sick.(Not a pretty sight). I will hopefully have more for next week.
We also had a false alarm with the fish we thought was going to have babies. In fact we found her dead and stuck to the filter this morning. Sorry for all the undue excitement.

365 photos week #7

Rachel's class went to the South Carolina Aquarium and Philip and I surprised her and went along.

This 25 year old turtle loved looking at Rachel. When Rachel stood up, she swam up, when she got down, the turtle swam down. She had so much fun watching and playing with her.

Rachel has started a tradition of making her Daddy a special Valentine's dinner. This year she even dressed in her Sunday clothes. She makes the menu and decorates the table. My job is to help her make the food. She tries to make most of the food heart shaped.  She loves to make him heart shaped Jello with whipped cream on top.

This is our house covered in snow. The first snow around here since 1989. This is the most snow Rachel has seen at one time. We ended up with 7 inches all together.

All Rachel wanted to do was make a snow angel. She had seen this on TV many times and pretended to make them many times on the floor in the house.

Rachel made a snowman for each of us. The far left is Daddy, Mommy in the middle and her on the far right.

A great day shopping at Publix. I got several things for free. Two boxes of sweetner, nail clippers, and nail files. I love finding good deals.

This weekend we went to Myrtle Beach. Saturday we were up in time to watch the sunrise from our room.

Rachel loves bugs so her Daddy and I got her chocolate hearts that look like bugs.

We got a chance to visit with Aunt Judy. Philip was back at the hotel sick so he was unable to join us.

We went to Broadway By the Beach on Monday morning and Rachel loved these dinosaurs. We mostly just walked around because most of the shops were not open. This is the off season so it was not busy at all.

Rachel and Daddy being funny.

365 photos week #6

Here are my pictures for this week in random order. Thursday my class went to see The Velveteen Rabbit Ballet. It was really cute. We had front row seats and I wish I knew how to turn the flash off to be able to get some pictures. Note to self : Read the book on how to do that for future pictures. After the ballet the children got to touch and talk to the people who played the different characters. This was a real fun field trip for all!

Rachel loves to cook and has talked some about becoming a Chef. This evening we were making Homemade Mac and Cheese (Weight Watchers), granola and Hot and Sour Soup. She put the dish towel on her shoulder and said she was Emeril. Someday we need to take her to one of his places to eat. Here she is cutting onions.

Here is our Mac and Cheese when it came out of the oven. Rachel said I needed to post this and tell how good it was!!! She liked it all but the bread crumbs and she knows Mac and Cheese. It is something we will make again. We just will not put bread crumbs on it or at least not so many. This was a great Weight Watchers recipe.

I decided to participate in the 28 Day Organizing Challenge and I choose to organize our garage. I read about this at www.orgjunkie.com. These are my before pictures after already putting up the hanging piece from the ceiling so we will see how this looks after the challenge. It can't look any worse.

365 photos Week #5

Posted by PicasaI know this is late but I was ready to start at the beginning  of the year. Rachel ringing in the new year with her glasses.

Follow up to Little Ones coming

As many of you know we are not expecting children. I would not tell you that on a blog. We are expecting(we think) baby guppies. We are watching closely one of our Mama guppies. We will let you know when and if we have babies. Philip said he thought it was crazy for me to even say anything but... little things excite us.
